Empowering Others: My Proudest Achievements in Leadership and Growth

Summary

  • Recruited individuals to challenging roles through trust and relationships, resulting in personal and professional growth for all.

  • I am recognized for creating environments where teams and visitors feel valued and connected, as reflected in leadership acknowledgments and lasting relationships.

  • I continue to support team members' success even beyond formal roles.

My proudest achievements all have to do with people.

Three times in my career I've made phone calls and told someone, "this job is crazy, but you're perfect for it." They gave notice, pushed back other commitments, took massive pay cuts, and moved across the country. I did not have to convince them, they knew me and trusted me. All four individuals are better in both their personal and career development because of it. All four of them are still close friends.

Two women rejoined the workforce, full time, after thinking they never would. I have an excellent track record of bringing stay-at-home moms back into roles where they absolutely crush it.

And there is this all staff email from a VP ten years ago when I worked for an international nonprofit:

To: All Staff-Headquarters
Subject: Happy Hour & Dinner

Thanks Christine,

I would like to appreciate what a positive role you continue to play in creating an environment in which many visitors feel at home in the DC office and your contribution to making us one organisation.  Great job and long may it continue.

While I was on maternity leave, the CEO let me know that funding didn’t come through and layoffs would need to happen. I resigned, hoping to save at least one other job. Despite my resignation, one of my team members was laid off. She texted me to say "I'm so thankful to have had you as a boss and for the opportunities you gave me." She texted me again 6 weeks later to help her negotiate a job offer she received.

In my career I've worked successfully with cross-functional leaders and teams, made companies a lot of money, and facilitated exceptional results. However, empowering others to grow and making them feel like they belong is what I'm most proud of.
